Marina History Displays
A waterfront gem
Three panels illustrate the early history of the wharf from its original site at the end of Anthes Street to the relocation at the present site. The second cluster of panels illustrates the commercial and social activities, from the clambakes, Dance Pavilion, Island County Fair, canning company and car ferries. The two furthest displays illustrate the history and the current activities now located along the shore, from Standard Oil facility and Sunrise Beach Resort to the Board Yard Inn and Nichols Brothers boat works. A single display at Phil Simon Park tells the story of Phil Simon and the roles he played in the growth and development of the marine.
You can walk the wharf and see what the area was like from the beginning of its history to today’s enterprises.
This project was funded by Langley Main Street, the Port of South Whidbey and Whidbey Island Bank.
